Item Description

An innovative and healthy food product, painstakingly created by a Japanese prepared food specialty store in Iwate, founded in 1958.

This meat substitute is made using okara from white soybeans produced in Iwate, konjac flour from Gunma, and domestic yams, and has a strange texture that is almost like meat.

It has about 1/10 the calories of chicken, but 4 times the dietary fiber of lettuce.

This is a next-generation health food that can be safely consumed by health-conscious people, people on diets, vegetarians and vegans, and those who want to live an environmentally conscious diet.

Why Okara and Konjac are Good for You

Both okara and konjac are known to be rich in dietary fiber, but there are differences in the dietary fiber they contain.

The dietary fiber in okara is insoluble dietary fiber and does not dissolve in water.

It swells up inside the okara, so even just a little bit will fill you up.

As it passes through the intestines, it stimulates the intestinal lining, making bowel movements smoother.

On the other hand, the dietary fiber in konjac is "water-soluble dietary fiber."

It dissolves in water and becomes gel-like, capturing sugars and fats, preventing a sudden rise in blood sugar levels and slowing down the absorption of fat.

Eating okara konjac provides two types of dietary fiber, which is expected to improve bowel movements and prevent lifestyle-related diseases. It is also good for dieting, making it an excellent healthy food.

Product Features

● Reliable quality made from 100% domestic ingredients

It uses okara made from white soybeans from Iwate, konjac flour from Gunma, and domestically grown yams.

All ingredients are domestically produced, and we carefully select non-genetically modified soybeans.

No chemical seasonings, preservatives or colorings are used.

These are healthy ingredients that maximize the natural power of the ingredients.

● Surprisingly low in calories and rich in dietary fiber

It is extremely low in calories, with only 25kcal per 100g.

Although it has about 1/10 the calories of chicken, it contains 4.7g of dietary fiber, which is about 4 times that of lettuce and 1.5 times that of burdock.

It is an ideal healthy food that allows you to consume both the insoluble dietary fiber of okara and the soluble dietary fiber of konjac.

● Texture that is just like meat

It has a bland taste when eaten raw, but when cooked it changes to a texture that is surprisingly close to that of meat.

If you slice it thinly and grill it, it will taste like yakiniku, if you deep-fry it it will have a juicy texture, and if you mince it in a food processor it can also be used as an ingredient in hamburgers and dumplings.

You can enjoy a variety of healthy dishes without having to give up meat.

● Value as upcycled food

Okara is a soybean residue that is generated in large quantities during the tofu manufacturing process.

We give new value to food ingredients that would otherwise be discarded, and realize an environmentally friendly and sustainable diet.

It is a food ingredient of the future that is delicious to eat and also contributes to the global environment.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What kind of dishes can I use it for?

A: You can slice it thinly and use it for deep-frying dishes like yakiniku, fried chicken, and cutlets, or you can mince it in a food processor and use it in a variety of meat dishes, such as hamburger steaks, gyoza, mapo tofu, and meat sauce.

It can also be thinly sliced and used as a substitute for green pepper and pork stir-fry or noodles.

It pairs perfectly with strong seasonings.

Q: Is pre-processing required?

A: No special preparation is necessary, but if you are concerned about the smell of konjac, we recommend slicing it thinly and seasoning it well with soy sauce, sugar, ginger, etc.

When it comes to fried foods such as fried chicken, you can make them taste even better by seasoning the batter well.

Q: Can you really be satisfied while dieting?

A: Yes.

The insoluble dietary fiber contained in okara konjac absorbs water and expands in the stomach, making you feel full even with a small amount.

Also, because it has a firm texture, you naturally chew more, which stimulates the satiety center and helps prevent overeating.

Q: Are there any precautions I should take when eating it for the first time?

A: Because it is rich in dietary fiber, we recommend starting with a small amount when consuming it for the first time.

If you take a large amount at once, you may experience bloating or loose bowels.

Gradually adjust the amount to suit you.

Example of how to eat

● Basic Yakiniku style

Slice the okara konjac into 2-3mm pieces and season with soy sauce, sugar, and ginger (you can also use yakiniku sauce).

Rub in potato starch for a different texture.

Grill thoroughly in a frying pan or on a hot plate, then serve with yakiniku sauce.

● Juicy fried chicken

Cut into bite-sized pieces and season with soy sauce, sake, ginger, and garlic.

Coat the chicken in potato starch and deep fry in 180°C oil until crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

● Healthy hamburger

Mince the mixture in a food processor and mix with the rehydrated dried shiitake mushrooms, shredded cabbage, breadcrumbs, and eggs.

Adjust the flavor with seasonings and cook slowly in a frying pan to create a healthy hamburger steak filled with vegetables.

● Chinese-style stir-fry

Cut it into thin strips, stir-fry it with green peppers and bamboo shoots, and season it with oyster sauce and chili bean paste to create a dish similar to green pepper and pork stir-fry.
