Based in the Sabae/Kawada area, this craft manufacturer combines the techniques of the lacquerware and eyeglasses industries to produce products that combine functionality and design.

The company's president, Mr. Igarashi, joined the family business at a young age and worked as an Echizen lacquerware painter.

At that time, it was common for children to take over their parents' family business, and I worked there with the feeling that "my parents are doing it, so I kind of do it."

But at that moment a turning point occurs.

A global brand that had heard of Sabae's technology asked us to make a display stand for a show, and the job turned out to be incredibly fun.

From then on, I started coming up with design ideas and creating things from scratch.

Igarashi has a strong love for Sabae.

We continue to focus on the technology that Sabae has to offer.

"My role is to connect and give shape to skills and materials, people and places of production," he says.

He says he wants more people to know about the wonderfulness of Sabae.

As in this case, we are always exploring possibilities, anticipating the times and trying crowdfunding for products we have designed ourselves.

We hope to spread the word not only as "makers" but also as "communicators" and pass on the development of our local area and the happy lives that traditional Japanese crafts bring to the next generation.
