Watabana Mini Towel

・They don't irritate your hands and are environmentally friendly. ・They are more absorbent and quick-drying than urethane sponges, yet can be sterilized by boiling, making them hygienic. ・They come in a set of two so you can have a spare one to wash.

This product was developed over 40 years with an unwavering commitment to all-natural manufacturing methods.

Since our founding in 1975, we have been making yarn, fabric and products with artisans who continue to use natural fibers, with the philosophy of "making good things that are useful to the world."

Using the only spinning machines that have been passed down in Japan, we continue to produce environmentally friendly products, taking more than 100 times the time and effort required for mass production.

The secret fiber that can remove oil stains with just water

How is it possible to remove oil stains using only water even though the fabric is 100% cotton?

The secret lies in how the thread is spun.

Below is a close-up comparison of fibers spun using conventional spinning methods (left) and the fibers of this product (right).

Comparison of fibers produced using conventional spinning methods and this product

When you look at the fibers of this product under a microscope, you can see that they are extremely fine, fluffy, and floating.

These air pockets are also key.

The fibers, which contain plenty of air, gently absorb water and oil, trapping them within their fine fibers.

This product is less likely to trap food debris than a urethane sponge, and because it is made from 100% cotton, it can be sterilized by boiling, making it hygienic.

Five unique features of this product that you won't find anywhere else!

1. Farmland that has never used pesticides

"Organic cotton" generally refers to cotton grown on farmland that has not used pesticides for the past three years.

This product meets even higher standards and is made from 100% cotton grown on farmland where pesticides have never been used in the past.

"Using pesticides will damage the soil. Using fertilizer will attract insects, and you'll have to use pesticides again. If you don't use pesticides, you can grow big cotton plants, and microorganisms will also grow in the soil." This is the belief that the villagers hold dear.

2. The only traditional spinning technique handed down in Japan

Using a spinning machine that was invented during the Meiji period and has been passed down through the generations, the yarn is spun slowly and manually, taking more than 100 times longer than modern mass-production spinning.

This slowly spun yarn produces fibers that are full of air, which is the key to their ability to absorb water and oil.

3. Chemical-free manufacturing process

For general cotton products, even those labeled as organic cotton, some chemicals are used as part of the manufacturing process to condition the surface of the fibers and fabric.

However, this product does not use any chemicals or other substances in its manufacturing process.

In order to preserve the texture of the cotton itself and reduce the environmental impact, we have devised chemical-free manufacturing methods, such as boiling, to maintain quality.

4. Handcrafted by skilled artisans

All products are sewn in Japan.

Although it may look like simple sewing, in fact, unlike normal sewing, the fabric of this product is woven loosely, which means that the fabric is prone to unraveling and cannot be re-sewn.

Each product is handcrafted by a skilled artisan with 40 years of experience.

(Sewing process)

By accumulating this meticulous attention to detail and taking more than 100 times longer than mass production, we are able to deliver natural, water-only cotton towels that are gentle on the skin and the environment, as they are made from the fluff itself.

5. No Cotton Goes to Waste

Generally, when cotton is mass-produced, only fibers (mainly long fibers) that can withstand the high-speed machines can be made into yarn and fabric, and cotton that cannot be spun successfully is discarded.

On the other hand, the yarn used in this product is finished slowly over time, so fibers (mainly short fibers) that would be discarded in mass production can be spun softly, and no cotton is wasted.

We are also committed to reducing waste at the sewing stage.

We calculated the width of the fabric and adjusted it in 5mm increments, and conducted repeated experiments to develop a size and shape that would not produce any scraps, and that would be easy to use for both men and women with different hand sizes, as well as being quick to dry and comfortable.

Reducing material waste is not only environmentally friendly, but it also allows us to lower the prices so that our products are more affordable for our customers, allowing us to deliver products that can be used continuously in everyday life and that is accessible to many.

At first glance, it may look like just a piece of fabric, but we put our time and effort into delivering it to many people so that it can be used in a variety of situations.
