The challenge of going shampoo-free – how to break the addiction and get healthy hair back

Eco-friendly everyday items

I have been doing skin fasting and going shampoo-free for over five years now.

To be honest, if skin fasting is a level 3 in difficulty, going shampoo-free would be level 10. That's how much more difficult it is to give up shampoo than it is to give up cosmetics.

The harm of shampoo

The shampoos currently on the market have very strong cleansing powers that completely remove sebum from the skin. This causes the body to react, gradually developing sebaceous glands, which then suck up the nutrients that should go to the hair.

In addition, modern shampoos contain nearly 40 types of chemicals that slowly seep into the 100,000 pores in your scalp every day, damaging your hair roots.

Kao's Tokyo Research Laboratory made the following announcement at the Japanese Pharmaceutical Society in 2006:

"A scalp survey was conducted on a total of 1,063 men and women aged between 3 and 69 years old, and it was found that approximately 70 to 80 percent had some kind of scalp symptom, such as dandruff or erythema, and that the moisture loss, amino acid elution, and nucleated cell rate were high, indicating a weakening of the stratum corneum barrier function," the study said.

The shampoo companies themselves have made it clear that these types of harmful effects are caused by their shampoos.

Shampoo Addiction

So even though the harmful effects of shampoo are clear, why is it that so many people can't stop using it?

That's because I'm addicted to shampoo .

I can't suddenly stop using the shampoo that I've been using every day. If I stop, my hair will get itchy, my skin will produce a lot of sebum, it will smell bad, it will be sticky, and it will be so painful.

How to stop shampooing

So how can you stop it?

The only way to do that is to move away from it little by little .

People who suddenly stop using shampoo in hopes of seeing immediate results will inevitably fail. That's how easy it is to stop using shampoo.

Once you realize that you are addicted to shampoo, try to stop using it every other day. If you can continue this for a month or two and feel that it is okay, try to stop using it for two days out of three. In this way, you can gradually stop using shampoo.

So, don't hold back when it's hard, just keep using the shampoo. Be prepared for it to take a year or two, and even if you experience setbacks, if you keep going without giving up, you'll slowly get over your addiction.

My experience going shampoo-free

In fact, I started doing this while living in Taiwan, where the humidity and temperatures are high.

Since I started living in Taiwan, my seborrheic dermatitis has gotten worse and I was really worried. Even though I am a salon owner, I was embarrassed that my scalp was sticky and smelly by the afternoon.

It was at that time that I came across a book by Dr. Ryuichi Utsugi called "If you stop shampooing, your hair will grow," and I encouraged myself by reading it over and over again as I continued to fight the itching and odor.

After two years had passed, I suddenly realized that I hadn't used shampoo at all in the past month, and had almost forgotten about it, and finally realized that I had succeeded in going shampoo-free. That's how much time it takes to go shampoo-free, and you need to be prepared to do it slowly and without forcing yourself.

Since then, the darkened skin around my neck and chest that I had scratched has completely cleared up, and where I was slightly balding on the top of my head and had a bunch of flyaway hairs, there is now an abundance of thick, shiny hair, and even though I'm 52 years old, I have an angel halo formed around my cuticles.

I can imagine that if I had found the Cotton Body and Mitten sooner, or had used it when I stopped using shampoo, it would have been much easier. So if you are thinking of starting to stop using shampoo, you are lucky to have found this product now! I can wholeheartedly recommend this product.
